E-Tricycle Changes Fate, Gagda’s Sensitivity Gives a New Life

Helplessness Seen on Social Media, Humanitarian Aid Reaches Maoist-Affected Village

Bijapur. On Monday, a long-lost smile returned to the face of Madkam Lakhma, who had spent his life suffocating in the silence of the hills. The path that once meant only struggle for him is now filled with the wheels of hope and self-reliance, thanks to the e-tricycle that has transformed his journey. This change was made possible by the humane sensitivity of former minister Mahesh Gagda.

A journalist from Telangana had shared Lakhma’s pictures on social media — a differently-abled youth from Kaur Gatta, a village in the Maoist-affected Pamed region, who had spent his entire life crawling on the ground. As soon as Gagda saw the post, he immediately decided to help and crossed difficult terrain to reach the village himself. There, he gifted Lakhma an e-tricycle, which has now become the biggest turning point of his life.

Life doesn’t stop anymore, it moves forward

An accident in class three had brought Lakhma’s world to a standstill. His father tried to help him move using the broken wheels of an old bicycle, but the walls of circumstance were too high. Today, as he rode his new tricycle, his face told a story of joy that words cannot fully express.
Lakhma said, “Now I can move on my own… I don’t need anyone’s support.”

This is the real politics of service – Mahesh Gagda

While handing over the tricycle, former minister Mahesh Gagda said that if a small initiative can change someone’s life, then this is the true form of politics – the politics of service.

In a region like Bijapur, where distance, deprivation, and Naxal influence still exist, this initiative is not just a tricycle but a symbol of restored faith. This story proves that no place is too far when one walks the path of humanity.
